About Peter Hoffmann

Hi, my name is Peter Hoffmann. I live in Karlsruhe, Germany, and studied Software Engineering and Management (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen, Diplom) at TU Berlin. This is my personal blog where I share posts around software, data engineering and general tech related content.

I'm a speaker at python and open source conferences and have been the co-organizer of PyCon.DE 2017, PyCon.DE 2018 and one of the founding members of PyData Karlsruhe.

Seedtag (since 2026)

Since 2026 I'm VP Engineering at Seedtag.

Blue Yonder (2013–2026)

From 2013 to 2026 I worked at Blue Yonder. I joined when it was still a machine learning startup and stayed through its whole journey: the exit to JDA Software in 2018, JDA taking on the Blue Yonder name in 2020, and the acquisition by Panasonic in 2021. In 2026 I left the company in the role of VP Product Development, being responsible for Luminate Demand Edge, the ML-based automated demand forecasting solution.

Mountains and Side Projects

In my spare time I like to travel and spend time in the mountains: ski touring, trail running and mountaineering. Many of my side projects grow out of that, usually combining maps, geodata and Python, and some of the details end up here on the blog.

I'm running biwak.info, a site that makes OpenStreetMap data easily accessible to find the most beautiful and remote huts and bivouacs in the Alps.

Great Himalaya Trail 2026 is the website of our expedition on the eastern part of the Great Himalaya Trail in Nepal in March/April 2026, with the route and our plans.

How I use AI

I use AI tools to help write and polish the posts, and to build and design the site. The ideas, experiences and opinions are my own.
